Education and public awareness are crucial to the continued success of current restoration efforts. Only with broad based community support will future generations once again be able to enjoy the historic abundance of salmon and steelhead in the Eel River. ERWIG seeks to provide the community with high quality, hands-on education opportunities through workshops, community meetings, and outreach events.

Arundo Eradication Bioblitz
ERWIG now has a project on the popular app and website inaturalist! As part of our Eel River Arundo Eradication Planning Project, we are dedicated to educating our local community about the invasive nature of Arundo, and the urgency to locate it and remove it before it can spread further, in our beloved watershed. Join us in April 2023 for our month-long biobliz and help us find where Arundo is hiding. |
Science On Tap
The community of Tribal, academic, professional, and local advocates who all share a common passion to protect our natural resources is extensive here in Humboldt County. However, collaboration between these groups is often stunted by institutional boundaries. This monthly event is working to create a space for these groups to come together to foster connection, growth, and collaboration. Each month we will hosts impactful speakers to present on topics of local interest, to better create space for student/professional networking, as well as celebrates our beloved local breweries. Our hope with this event is to bring like-minded people together, to encourage communication and idea-sharing in a fun and casual setting. Our Science on Tap event is free, to encourage people from all backgrounds to have the opportunity to be inspired by our speakers. |

Tree Plantings
In addition to the tree plantings carried out as part of grant funded projects, ERWIG also strives to involve the Eel River community in the restoration of riparian (stream-side) vegetation. Planting native trees and shrubs in areas near creeks that are lacking vegetation is an inexpensive and easy way to improve stream conditions for salmon, beautify our public and private spaces and connect people with plants.
If you are interested in having ERWIG plant a native tree on your property, contact us! We can also assist with bigger revegetation projects involving thousands of plantings.

Educating Students
Educating children about salmonids (salmon and steelhead) is a fun way to get kids thinking about salmon restoration. ERWIG teams up with other local groups to carry out salmonid and watershed education.
